⚔ HOW SCORING WORKS
A guide for all participants — untournamatched.xyz
🏆 WIN = 5 BASE PTS
⚡ BOLD CHOICES = MORE PTS
⚠ SAFE PLAY = PENALTY
WHY THIS SYSTEM EXISTS
Stronger players are rewarded for taking risks — picking a weaker character earns more points than playing it safe.
Weaker players are rewarded for upsets — beating a stronger player is worth a lot more than beating someone at your level.
Playing it safe has a cost — using a strong character against a weak opponent will reduce your score.

①
Base Points — 5.0 pts
Every win starts here — guaranteed.
②
Player Multiplier
1.0 + (gap × 0.20)
Beat a stronger player → bonus. No bonus for beating a weaker player.
③
Character Multiplier
1.0 + (gap × 0.10)
Use a weaker character → bonus. No bonus if your character is equal or stronger.
④
Mismatch Penalty
balance² × 0.055 | balance = player gap − char gap
Balance is your net advantage — it measures how much of your player skill advantage was left over after accounting for your character choice.
Example: You have a 3.0 player tier advantage and pick a character 2.5 tiers weaker than your opponent's. Your net balance is 0.5 — you still had a slight edge on net, so a small penalty applies. If your character gap had been ≥ 3.0, balance would be zero or negative and no penalty fires.
Using a weaker character earns you a char multiplier bonus but does not automatically avoid the penalty — it only avoids it if the character gap fully offsets your player advantage. The penalty accelerates quickly for large imbalances but is tiny when balance is small.
Fully waived when you win as a significant underdog (≥2 player tiers weaker than your opponent) — a weaker player should never be punished for pulling off a big upset.

MATCH EXAMPLES
| Scenario | P. Mult | C. Mult | Penalty | Score |
|---|---|---|---|---|

KEY REMINDERS
Player Tiers
Tier 1 = strongest player. Higher number = newer or weaker player.
Character Tiers
Tier 1 = strongest character. Higher number = weaker / more challenging.
Both Multipliers Stack
You can earn both, one, or neither on any given win.
Penalty = Net Advantage
The penalty fires on your net balance (player gap minus character gap). Using a weaker character helps — but only avoids the penalty entirely if your character gap fully covers your player advantage. Small balances cost almost nothing; large ones cost a lot. Fully waived for significant underdogs (≥2 player tiers weaker).
Score Range
Minimum 2.0 pts per win. Scores above 10 pts apply diminishing returns.
